North Chagrin Reservation Cleveland Metropark Hiking Trail Pictures The 1.6 mile North Chagrin Reservation loop trail goes down a deep ravine into a beautiful forest where there is a shaggy bark hickory grove. Hickory groves are one of my favorite places to hang out. North Chagrin Reservation has many little water flows roaming throughout the ravine and over the crusty shale outcropings. The Nature Center has wonderful nature exhibits. Walk into Squire's Castle with a little imagination and you can call it your own castle of the North Chagrin Reservation.
 Buttermilk Falls Trail Overview: North Chagrin Reservation Cleveland Metropark runs through eastern Cuyahoga and western Lake counties. Many visitors head directly to the Nature Center, located off of Buttermilk Falls Parkway, in order to get their bearings and plan their routes with the help of posted maps and staff naturalists.
 The Experience: North Chagrin Reservation Cleveland Metropark offers over a dozen different trails that can either be completed on their own or combined with others. If you've got an entire afternoon, check out the Castle Valley Trail, one of the park's most beautiful, and a moderate 2.25-mile hike with just one big hill. For an easier walk, try the .75-mile Overlook Trail, near the Forest Picnic Area, or the Hemlock, which skirts a ravine and includes views of small waterfalls. A naturalist's favorite is the Hickory Fox, a 1.6-mile loop trail that begins from the same trailhead as the Hemlock and winds along a deep ravine, then turns into the forest, passing great vine tangles of fox grapes and groves of shag bark hickory.
 The Buttermilk Falls Parkway Trail is a 4-mile trail from Chardon Road in Willoughby Hills, south along Buttermilk Falls Parkway to Mayfield Village's trails and two spurs west to SOM Center Rd. Entrances are off SOM Center/Route 91, Chagrin River and Chardon roads.
 Includes a unique underground Visitor Center with exhibits highlighting many subjects. Special programs are frequently offered here. There is a 16 acre arboretum, a Rock & Herb Garden, observation decks, three ponds, hiking trails including a suspension bridge, and a tallgrass prairie demonstration area.
 At the Naturealm, 16 acres have been developed into an arboretum featuring a collection of more than 300 varieties of trees and shrubs. Plants are labeled to aid in identification and are grouped according to growth habit: columnar, weeping, pyramidal, etc. Special areas include a large display of flowering crabapples and groupings of rhododendrons. The scenic paths through the arboretum are paved and have easy grades, making them accessible to all people. An observation deck and vine arbor constructed with donations from Witan, a service club, provides places to relax and watch birds which frequent the area.
